May Giveaway!!!

This is my first giveaway. I have been pretty distracted so its not as cool as I would like it to be but it has some good stuff. So, the rules first...

1. All entries must be entered before May 31st, Midnight PST.

2. Post a comment in the comment section below. Please make sure there is a way for me to get a hold of you.

3. Tell me about the ugliest thing you have ever made- it can be from elementary school or now. If you think about it and it makes you smile at the ugliness- its perfect.

4. I will ship international.

5. That's all.
So, here is what you can get if you win:

One yard of Alexander Henry's Asian Pullout. Its a nice polyester blend. Great bright cheery colors.

These great embroidery scissors. I bought them because I needed a pair of small scissors and was so excited when I noticed they had a little curve at the end which is great for cutting loose threads. I bought my mom a pair for her birthday too!

Melly and Me's Mad Cow pattern. Some little kid would love one of these. Some adults too!

Five Fat Quarters of this sweet fabrics. Sorry I don't know the name of maker. I didn't want to disturb the pretty triangle to figure it out and forgot to note it at the store. But either way- its pretty.
So, you can win all this! There is also about three yards of ribbon there. PLUS!, I will put a little surprise in the package.

I hope you love it all and I can't wait to hear about your ugliest project!

P.S. Sorry for the poor pictures. I am in a dark room and its overcast outside so no natural lighting. Plus, I totally broke our PC. We have morning glories taking over my rose bushes. Those suckers don't want to die! So much so that I got a virus when I looked up how to kill morning glories! They have infiltrated the internet!!! (I'm on my hubby's laptop.) Such the morning.

  1. I attempted to make my niece a dress many, many years ago and it was just a big huge mess! I was so tramatized that I stopped sewing for years. The only garment I'll make now are pajama bottoms because they're almost impossible to mess up. Sorry to hear about your PC. Mine caught viruses/trojans a few months ago and it was a nightmare getting it all out. UGH!

  2. so sorry to hear about your PC! and all the morning glories =(

The ugliest thing I ever made was one of the first dresses I made for myself. I wanted something easy so I chose a pattern for a pretty shapeless dress. Well im not petite and in the end it looked like a huge sheet on me...so not cute. And worst of all was that I made it in this horrible hospital blue linen. I tried to tell my husband it wasnt a waste of time because I could wear it to bed...he QUICKLY nixed that idea. Needless to say I am much more careful about the patterns I pick out considering my body type.

Another horrible experience was the PJ pants I made for my husband. I cut out a size large...because that is what we buy in the store. The entire time I was making I thought they were big but I just kept going. Oh man were they HUGE!!! After looking at the measurements I should have made him a small! To make matters worse I decided that I would just cut some fabric off of the sides and sew them back together. Well I didnt take into consideration that there was a front and a back so I cut them the same. When he put them on and sat down he nearly split the back. They are SUCH a mess. poor hubby is afraid for me to make him anything =(

  3. I made some terrible things that my mom would proudly display in the family room for years afterward. I made an ambitious coil pot with three sections and painted it in shades of green. It sat over the fireplace until I moved out and told my mom she really could just give it to Goodwill. (I knew she would never throw it away.)

  4. Haha, I am loving these stories. The worst thing I've made was an attempt at a roman shade for my daughter's room. It was my first (and only) attempt, and it was plain navy blue (thankfully no stripes to line up) but I couldn't find fabric big enough for the window so I had to piece it together, and the back had long stripes of white on it for the rods to go through which clearly showed through the window. to fix that, I safety pinned an old sheet over it. The best part was, we moved a few months later, and the buyers wanted us to leave all our curtains! Clearly they didn't look closely enough at THAT one-- but we left it! I laugh to myself at what they must have thought when they saw how sloppy it was made with a sheet safety pinned on!!

  5. What a wonderful giveaway! The most ugly thing I ever made was a pillowcase-bag painted with puffy paint at my 10th birthday sleepover. It was inside out to boot.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I made a bag that was pretty ugly. I still used it to tote things back and forth to work though because I had put so much time into making it! I was mad that I wasted the fabric as well.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The ugliest thing I made was a bead woven necklace. It was freeform in silver, turquiose and opal. It had a large focal bead and was it ever UGLY! The funniest part was I slapped a ridiculous price on it and it sold at one of my art fairs!! Beauty (or ugly) truely is in the eye of the beholder!

    ReplyDelete
  8. My first sewing project was a messenger bag I made in middle school. The straps were so long that the bag dragged the ground but I was so proud of my creation that I dragged it around anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I made a truly hideous lace and cable sweater once. It was so ugly and misshapen that I didn't even bother to salvage the yarn. I just threw it away!

    ReplyDelete
  10. In High School I mad a horrible jumper. It was oversized with a drop waist...not a flattering shape on my small frame.

  11. oops...email is annamaschke@gmail.com

  12. Sorry to hear about your PC, that totally sucks!

Would love to be in the running for the giveaway please.

  13. Oh, I 've made so many ugly things I couldn't possibly remember them all!!Usually it is clothing:)

    ReplyDelete
  14. The ugliest thing I made was my first sweater...it ended up being hugely wide, baggy and misshappen. Not pretty at all and totally frustrating as it required months of knitting.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hmmmm...ugliest thing I have ever made. I would have to say a scarf I knitted for my mom when I was in second grade. It started out light pink, but I ran out of yarn before it was long enough, so the other half was neon pink! It really was quite ugly!

  17. I think the ugliest thing I ever made was a skirt for Renaissance Faire. The color looked good (at home in a dark house). When I went out in the sun, it pretty much was my sister's favorite color when she was little "kitty puked up grass green".

Sorry about your virus, we just spent a fortune at work trying to get rid of one. What a nightmare!

Thanks for entering me in your drawing.

  18. I would love to win you great giveaway! The ugliest thing I think I have made is a shirt that weas shaped weird and to be honest when I look back now the colours were all wrong!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I love those fabrics!
My ugliest project would have to be a dress that I made in my high school sewing class. I was using a vintage pattern that would have normally been cute, but for some odd reason I picked poop brown fabric with ivory piping. The fit was terrible. The overall effect was very low-budget 1960s flight attendant uniform.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  20. thank you for such a lovely giveaway! the mad cow pattern is just adorable! i think the worst thing I have ever made was a bright pink and lime green jumper I knitted back in the 80's. It was meant to go with my orange pedal pushers, pink beret, plastic yellow necklace and thin plastic red belt - remwmber that look?! I only wore it once....

    ReplyDelete
  21. what a great giveaway! I love Melly & Me!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Great prizes! The ugliest thing I have made so far was a circle skirt out of green linen. It turned into a disaster and the fabric will now be used as pillows. I dare not even post pictures. :P

    ReplyDelete
  23. lovely package! hmm the ugliest thing i have made would have to be a gag gift for my sister. it was a decoupeged precious moments plate ( because she hates them so) and it was ugly but so funny!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Those fabrics are so pretty! I'm loving the little cow pattern, too.

  25. Before I knew anything about sewing I made my boyfriend in highschool a pair of shorts. They turned out really good - until he put them on. They were skin tight - I didn't pay attention to the sizing and made an XS for a size L guy. I laughed so hard I cried and nearly peed my pants! To this day when I think about those shorts I laugh.
What a great giveaway package. Thank you so much for the chance to win!

  26. It was a quilt or rather quilt blocks. I took random scraps and cut them about 2 inches wide and 12 inches long. Nothing went together, they were a mixed blend and just sat in my closet. One day I thought I would donate them to the guild to do something with. Cut them up or make linus quilts with - anything, I didn't care. I think they ended up in the garbage. I don't know but they may have been nicer in smaller bits. I have since done quite a few scrap quilts but they have been much nicer.
    What a great giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  27. What a fantastic little cow pattern!
I think the ugliest thing I've yet made was a last minute Christmas ornament I made for my mother when I was about 10 - its this hideous conglomeration of fabric and twigs. But of course my mother loved it and insists on putting it on the tree every year.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I made a sheer blouse in Home Ec in High School, the teacher didn't tell me it was see thru untill I had to wear it for a grade, good thing it was all girls in class!

  29. Hi, just found your blog by visiting another blog! May I join the give away? When I was young I had to knit a dress for a baby. By the time it was finished it wasn't blue anymore but black.

  30. Happy Giveaway Day! Love those fat quarters.

I tried to do a bit of speed sewing once in high school. I needed something to wear to a church function, and I figured I could whip up a fitted pencil skirt (zippered) in a little over an hour. I cut corners all over the place (no fitting, or pressing and the zipper was a mess). It was a disaster.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I recently made a tote bag that was pretty ugly... it seemed like a good idea when I was picking the fabric out (maybe it was the neon lights), but the handles and bottom were a bright (construction worker vest) orange. I'm not really into orange, definitely not bright orange, I've never used the bag, but can't seem to part with it as it was my second sewing project ever.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My first sewing project from a pattern. I didn't pay attention to the sizing. I just went along with my dress size. I could hardly get the dress over my head, and was much to busy fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  33. In middle school I made a drawstring bag and sewed it with the seems on the outside, plus the fabric was hideous - think 80's!

  34. Great giveaway!

In highschool, I took a home-ec/sewing course. I made a summer dress - it was a disaster. The fabric I chose was super ugly (early 90's!) It was supposed to hit just above the knee, but by the time I got the front and back "even", it was way too short! My mom wouldn't let me leave the house with it on!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Such a generous stash - thanks so much for the chance to win!
My ugliest was a draught excluder made from pooh brown (sorry, but I can think of no other way to describe the colour!!) FURRY stuff - velour maybe ?!! it had eyes and ears and a tongue to look like a snake - eugh - it was in sewing class in secondary school - I was 12 - WHO in their right minds gets new sewers to work with anything like fur or velour - no wonder it took me 20 years to touch a sewing machine again !!!!

  36. Hi, thanks for the giveaway!
The ugliest thing I ever made was a plaster figure that I paint for my mother. I didn't know how I managed to decorate it so badly.
I was so disapointed, because it was the mother's day gift!

  37. Hi!
The ugliest thing I can recall making was an outfit for my oldest when he was a baby. I spent all this time making it and then I never put it on him because it was so hideous! Oh well!

    ReplyDelete
  38. cute triangles!! anyway, the handsdown ugliest project ever was a purple and teal plaid skirt, and purple taffeta jacket/top I made to wear to my first school banquet. Oh yes ans the matching purple plaid headband to go with. what the heck was I thinking!! And yes, I have the school photo to prove it.

  39. Awesome giveaway!
    okay, ugliest thing. let's see...
I didn't take any art classes until sr. year of high school, and we were supposed to make a vessel out of clay. Mine was a vase, that was supposed to look like a lovely woman holding the flowers in her arms, instead it looked like a crackly old vampire sucking the blood out of the tulips! Ha!

I hope I win for admitting to that one!

  40. The ugliest thing I ever made was in high school - it was a gold and cream shell crocheted afghan. I gave it to my Mom and was very thankful when she finally threw it away last year after it had been the dog blanket for years!

  41. Thanks for sharing your stash with us!

I have been sewing for 40+ years so there have many a mistake made as I learned. Still learning too. One ugly item that comes to mind was a maternity dress. My sewing was perfect and the fit was fine but why did I think a big colorful print would hide my belly and Baby Boy (now 24)?!? I looked like a carnival tent with flowers!

I only wore it once because I was sure it would give Boy brain damage!

    ReplyDelete
  42. The ugliest thing i ever made was just last year. It was (is - because i can't bring myself to finish it) a table runner. I used the railfence pattern, but the fabrics i used were all wrong. Lesson learned. :)

  44. I just finished a child vest design that I was planning to sell and the shoulders make my kids look like they belong on the starship enterprise - all pointy and vulcan-like and the fugliest thing I have ever made or seen..at least this past month ;) Great giveaway, add me to to the drawing please

  45. Just one really ugly project? There was the blue beareclaw patchwork I made age 14 that had one section the wrong way around and in colours I loathe. Or the soft toy dinosaur that had mutant wings and knock-kneed legs - my husband still asks where that one went;-) There are so many. I could not isolate just one. Now if I could isolate all of them together and vapourise the lot......

    ReplyDelete
  46. The ugliest thing I ever made was a pair of shorts. I was in High School, they were neon pink and purple, with a huge flower pattern. This is a great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  47. In Middle school art class, i tried to make a sculpture of a hand doing the Vulcan greeting thing. I ran out of time and turned it into a strawberry pot with texture. My mom still has it on top of the fridge!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Awesome. Probably the ugliest thing was a bright purple shorty-jumpsuit/haltertop thing that I made in 4-H. I can't believe I ever finished that project!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I made a lot of my own dresses when I was in high school and took most of them with me to college. I was wearing one of them when my roommate so kindly called it the "Three Boob Dress". I hadn't noticed the neckline in front poked out a bit and made it look like I had an extra one. Even though it wasn't too obvious, I don't think I wore that dress much after that. maisiesmom@gmail.com

  50. I think my most recent ugliest thing would be a playmat I was trying to make for my little one. It started out as a baby quilt then it looked so ugly I thought maybe a playmat as I continued to work on it it was so horrible I decided just to put it aside and maybe one day decide what to do with it. I loved the colors but the patterns of fabric just looked terrible. Oh well I moved on to another project and I will blame that one on post baby hormones.

Your giveaway looks great I have 5 little ones that would love for me to make the Molly and Me cow. All the fabric would be awesome too, can't we all use more fabric?:)
    thanks,

  51. The ugliest thing I ever made was a crosstitch picture of a bird in a cage. I made it in junior high and thought it was hte most beautiful thing at the time. I still have it and when I look at it I know how much better I've gotten lol.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Love the mad cow!

The ugliest thing I ever made was an attempt at refashioning a top when I was about 15. I cut it to ribbons and pieced it back together using safety pins and that was it. Baaaaaad look! Thankfully I've improved a little since then, and people don't mind being seen in public in things that I've made... So much easier to make things for my little boy as he doesn't mind looking like a doofus - he'll always look cute!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I made an absolutely horrific softie that was supposed to be a star fish. It was pink and completely warped. I was 15, and my mother laughed so hard she cried...

    ReplyDelete
  54. The ugliest thing I ever made is a very large stuffed dinosaur I made for my son for Christmas a couple of years ago. I very loosely followed a pattern from a craft book I had and it did not turn out right. It has a great big fat belly and a very skinny neck and head and way too short legs. It is so terrible! We are very big on handmade gifts and I knew my son was expecting me to make something for him. But I didn't finish the dinosaur until Christmas Eve and so I had to give it to him. He completely loved it and still does. The only problem is that he loves showing it to everyone that comes over. I am so embarrassed every time he drags it out of his room, but he is so proud of it that I just have to smile in front of my gritted teeth and say, "Yes, I did make that."

  55. The ugliest thing was any drawing that I did in school.

    ReplyDelete
  56. VERY generous giveaway! The ugliest thing I have ever made was this last Easter when I attempted to make my young son a stuffed fleece chick. It was going so well and I still don't know what happened, but it turned out terrible! The wings didn't match or anything! Ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Great prizes!
The first time I made a pair of shorts (the only time, come to think of it, lol), I put them together upside down the first time. It looked it a pair of shorts for some strange creature with very skinny legs waaay far apart.

  58. I'm a quilter and not a seamstress. Any time I've tried to make clothing is has been hideous.

  60. Once I made a pocket organizer for my kitchen cabinet. It was going to be hidden inside the door so I made it out of ugly stash fabric and horribly ugly ribbon. The pockets were clear plastic so you could see what went inside. Once it was hung and filled with kool-aid packets, pudding mix boxes and seasoning packets, it looked like someone threw up groceries all over the inside of my cabinet and tried to wipe it up with the most ugly fabric imaginable. I took it straight down, it made me sad to open the cabinet. YUCK!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I tried to make a skirt for me once, and while it wasn't necessarily all that "ugly" (I'd chosen some pretty material), it didn't fit! I didn't really know how to sew at the time, so my lines weren't all that straight, so by the time I got the thing together, it was TINY and didn't fit. I didn't think it was even good enough to GIVE AWAY anonymously, so I trashed it. :D

  64. Absolutely gorgeous. (Except the cow, which my son would love, but I don't think I can actually call it gorgeous. :)
The worst was a 'taco' in first grade that was sculpted out of clay, slathered in random colors of glaze and promptly given to my mother who swore it was the best gift she'd ever had, but what was it?

  65. When I was in high school I decided to crochet a granny square sweater. Being new to the world of yarn I used acrylic yarn...in bright and bold red, yellow, and blue. It was hideous and bulky. I took apart the squares figuring I might be able to do something with them but never have.

  66. I thought it would be fun and colourful if me and my son made the curtains for his room.
I sewed up some plain white curtains and bought some safe-to-use fabric crayons. It turns out that curtains are huge to try and cover in crayon drawings and my son has the patience of... well, of a 2 year old, so they look half finished, and well... ugly, not cute at all.

  67. My ugliest project occurred in 5th grade when we made clay projects as gifts for father's day. I made a mug that said "Dad" on it (of course) and painted it many shades of orange and brown and green and the colors got all mixed together and when it came back from the kiln it was without a doubt the ugliest mug in the history of the world. However, my Dad loved it and still keeps his pens in it on his desk at work. The mug is almost 20 years old at this point!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. In a grade four art class, I made a hideous papier mache frog. We started with a balloon and some rolled-up newspaper for legs, and put on layers of paper until it all held together. My frog was lumpy (and not really in the way that frogs are lumpy), but it wasn't so bad until it came time to paint it. I just couldn't get it to look right, so I gave up and splattered random colours on it.

My parents kept that thing for years.

  69. Probably the pants I made for my husband a few years ago. I was worried the pattern was too small, so I modified and wound up with pants that were big enough for three husbands! Then it had a pocket on the outside, somoehow, I wound up putting it at his knee. But since it was the first thing i ever sewed, my husband still wears them every now and then!

  70. Ugly projects....hmmmm, there have been a few. One that comes to mind was a dresden plate quilt, the blocks were nice but I used a really, really ugly bright green for the sashing & binding & it ruined the quilt. I ended up selling it in a garage sale.
    Thanks for offering the giveaway!

  71. My ugliest creation was the first stuffed animal I crocheted. I made it for a friend's daughter 8 years ago. A bunny, it looked really cute in the picture. That thing is scary-looking, way too big because I didn't actually know how to crochet, and it has this really strange "dress" I crocheted but had to majorly alter the pattern because the bunny was so abnormally large and oddly shaped. And I get to see it every time I go and visit my friend. I gather that the daughter also thinks the bunny is kind of scary-looking but her mom makes her keep it out (or take it out when I visit) because I made it for her. Poor kid.

  72. What fun!!

How to choose the ugliest thing I have ever made, when there are so many contenders. Most recently would have to be the fabric-covered plastic Easter eggs I attempted to make after seeing them on Sew Mama Sew. They looked so easy! Never mind, mine turned out stiff, angular, crunchy to the touch, loose threads wadded up and stuck to the glue...oh the horror!

I am loving reading all the comments, and signing up for the drawing in my first ever giveaway. Thanks so much for including me!

  73. the ugliest thing...besides some cakes, would be a knit top in home ec class. it was a horrible peach synthetic thing. very plain and peach (i hate peach, now i know why)!

  74. Humm, I'm an artist, so I have made many ugly things, but I'd have to go for the first doll I made, my son didn't know what she was. Needed pattern making 101.ha ha

  75. Of course I thought it was beautiful at the time, but the ugliest thing I ever made was a blue polyester wrap skirt when I was in high school.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well, I've had a skirt fiasco, it was a twist on a panel skirt and terrible to sew. Once I tried in on it was accentuating all the bad parts (big hips, big bud, one side was even shorter then the other so my bad knee with a nasty scar was also showing}. Ooh now that I remember it, it still makes me cringe....

    ReplyDelete
  77. I tried to learn to crochet and I made the most HIDEOUS scarf ever created! LOL! It was horrible crooked all over the place and it was this terrible, cheap purple marbled yarn that was just plain yuck! LOL! I kept it as a memory! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  78. The ugliest thing I ever made was probably one of my first projects in Home Ec. in High school. It was a pair of shorts that were WAY too big for me and were made from scrap fabric that was in the classroom. I never wore them because they looked so dorky.

    ReplyDelete
  79. How fun! I have so many projects I could use those items for! My ugliest project would have to be the first shirt I ever made. Set in sleeves. Enough said? It was never wearable, and I think my mom still has it in her treasures box...I have no idea why.

    ReplyDelete
  80. What a great giveaway! Hmm, the ugliest project I even made was probably a pair of pajama pants I made in my first sewing class. I used a horrible stiff fabric in an off-navy blah blue. The legs tapered and they were just AWFUL! I haven't made a pair of pants since, it was so traumatic.

    ReplyDelete
  81. There are 2 that come to mind: a bright yellow knitted 'cat' hand puppet when I was 8, with pipecleaner whiskers and an orange scarf around it's neck. The pipecleaners were too heavy for the knitting, and just looked creepy.
The other one was a waistcoat, which looked fine until I added a heavy metal zipper, and then... embellished the zip pull with wire twirls. I thought it was amazing for about a week, and then I came to my senses.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I've knit some ugly things - knitting is always nice because you can just unravel it...

  83. I think the ugliest thing that I've been involved in making recently was helping my guy make a pair of cleats out of cardboard, tape, hot glue and gumdrops. It was part of a practical joke, but man were they ugly!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Ugliest thing I ever made was a pair of pajama pants from a pattern. Apparently I suck at reading patterns (only clothes ones though, I can handle crafty ones!). I made these up and tried them on and they were horribly baggy in the butt and about 10 sizes too big! After all that, I just tossed them. Couldn't stand to look at them long enough to selvage what fabric I could! LOL...

    ReplyDelete
  85. The ugliest project was a skirt and matching vest I made when I was 11 or 12...out of this very floral print. It was ugly, and by the time I got the vest done, the skirt no longer fit. So yay, I never had to wear it!

  90. LOL The ugliest thing I ever made was a sweater for hubby out of bright yellow and brown acrylic yarn. It was so heavy and bulky that I didn't want him to wear it. I think he wore it once to make me feel better.

  91. what a fabulous giveaway! i would love to win!

one of my ugliest projects was a skrit made from a recycled sheet- i looked like i was wearing a tent... a tent made out of an old sheet! :)

  92. One of the ugliest things I have ever made would have to be my first stuffed animal project when I was 12. The arms were all wrong and an ear was sewn into itself too... it was funny looking, but oh so loveable. I have since learned a bit more about sewing and turning everything properly before continuing. :)

  95. The worst thing I've made is a pair of shorts for my DD. I didn't use a pattern, and they wound up looking like underwear. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  96. The ugliest thing I've made by far was in high school. I made a pair of bluish cordouroy pants with a black zipper right up the back, which looked hideous, and also as I 'grew', the pants got shorter, so I added some green cordouroy fabric to the bottom to make the hem longer. I wore those pants for years, so much so that the cord part of cordouroy wore off and there were big patches of just bare soft fabric! I can be reached at dmacclelland(at)gmail(dot)com

  99. I have made SO many ugly things. I started sewing at nine... I had no sense of color combinations. Ronald McDonald quilts, moon and star pj pants... to much ugliness to mention.

  102. Girl - you have a lot of people wanting your stuff! Yea for you and your bloggy traffic.

I would love to win. Oh so cool stuff. My baby girl would love for me to make her a moo moo. :)

    Thanks for having a giveaway.

  103. I, like the rest of the sewing world, would love to win this! The ugliest thing I ever made was just last christmas! I made my sisters matching shirts with mittens sewn on the front instead of pockets. I forced them to wear it too! It was a nice idea but by the time I wrapped them I knew they were so incredibly goofy :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. This is a great giveaway! My ugliest project...an pair of capris for myself last summer. The fabric color wasn't what I really wanted...I was going for classic khaki linen, but I settled on the only one the store had, a very-yucky yellowish brown...and I couldn't get past the color...I finished the capris but I hated them and removed them from the house! Oh well. Live and learn.

  105. What a great competition, the ugliest thing I made was a Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz pinafore dress, it was so badly made as I didn't have any sewing experience then, it was elasticated in the middle and so unflattering! I did have lovely red shoes to go with it though!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Oh, I hope I win. I've been needing little scissors like that forever.

Hmmm...ugliest thing I've made. Well, my Barbie had some very unfortunate outfits when I was a kid but the ugliest is my first attempt at an all cloth doll. I didn't have a pattern so I "free-handed" it when I cut the body. She had arms and legs that looked like tree stumps, her head was sewn on like frankenstein and because I couldn't do faces yet she looked basically like a creepy little voo-doo doll. But, I still have her and she's grown on me. Especially since I've given her hair you can style (i.e. really long yarn) and several wardrobe options.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I made this banner in middle school out of felt that had all sorts of gross designs on it. I'm not sure what I was thinking, as it was my own design. Hopefully my tastes have improved since then!

    ReplyDelete
  108. The first diaper I made I accidentaly put the pul inside out so I have one diaper that looks like a pair of lavendar pattent leather underwear. Not a cute look for a baby.

  109. A maternity dress for my first pregnancy. Talk about fashion gone awry!

    ReplyDelete
  110. The ugliest thing I ever made was a smock-style shirt in 8th grade many years ago. Thanks for the chance!

  111. i found a pattern for these comfortable cotton pants for my self to were at home....
o my god! the way it looked when i was finished sewing them!!

  114. I've made a lot of ugly stuff over the years, lol. This is a good idea for comments! The one that stands out to me is a dress that was a floral woven with a lace bib like thing and poofy shoulders and a princess waist... it was supposed to look like cinderella and I think i was about 13 when I made it, it looked more like a cupcake gone awry! That was my first zipper though, and THAt part turned out good:)

    ReplyDelete
  115. So for the ugliest thing I have ever made I have to go back to high school when I made a pair of ugly brown bell bottom pants and bright orange, yellow and brown scoop neck top. I can remember the dance I wore it to...what was I thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  116. When I was young I took a bunch of old curtains and tried to make some clothes out of them (like in the sound of music)...they were hideous curtains, and loin-cloth type clothes. Live and learn!

    ReplyDelete
  117. I love those fabrics! And I like hearing about everyone else's ugly projects. My ugliest creation was a set of sunglass holders I made a few years back. They weren't necessarily ugly, but I just didn't know what I was doing (didn't think to sew right sides together, things like that). So now when I see one of them, I wince at the lack of sewing knowledge that went into them!

  118. I made this ugly clay thing in elementary school. Lets just say I was not meant to do pottery.

    ReplyDelete
  119. The ugliest thing that I ever made was a marble cake :) I must have added too much of something or not enough of something and it looked like it was alive. Scary stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I tried to knit a pair of socks and they ended up looking like a boob tube for a snake.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I made a little teddy bear from my own pattern when I was about 9. I didn't take seem allowance into account and it had great big long stick thin arms and legs but a huge head and belly! My brother loved it though and named it Miss Gordon after his kindy teacher! (he still gets teased about this 25 years later!)

    ReplyDelete
  122. I tried to make my horse a birthday cake out of ingredients he would eat... Not good :)

  123. great giveaway! Ugliest thing? Probably the maternity dress I made with a huge sailor collar & big bow, ok, it was the 90s, give me a break! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  124. Cool idea with your entry request... the ugliest thing I eber made were a pair of short shorts in the 8th grade. We had to pick from the horrid fabrics they had there for us, and the pattern worked well for the skinny girls, but not so well for me. So I had ugly tartan shorts with no butt and they went straight in the bin. It was the beginning of my sewing though!

    Thanks for the great giveaway.

    Thanks for the give-away!

  128. LOL - i made this plate - not sure what it's made of, but you color it with markers, and then it bakes or something, and it's some sort of plastic - anyway, i still have it, and it's SO ugly, but it does make me smile!! it has a really distorted, funky looking butterfly on it. i think i was in kindergarten or first grade when i made it, and my mom just gave it back to me last year. :)

    ReplyDelete
  129. Love it!

The ugliest thing I ever made was a Barbie doll dress, it looked like a plastic bag, but I was very very young and I'm sure everyone else thought it was wonderful at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  130. The ugliest thing I ever made was this puffy, puffy cream hat that I crocheted to match one of my favorite scarves. It was just so big despite the fact that it actually fit my head (which is normal-sized). My roommate described it using a particular part of a man's anatomy. Regardless, I wore it around campus and now I wonder if everyone else was thinking the same thing...

    ReplyDelete
  131. I made a wrap around skirt (i use the term lightly!) in high school. It was made out of a cheap revolting green stretchy material - i'm not sure which was worse, the material or the pattern (which made me look like a heavily pregnant frog!) It took me about 20 years to recover from the trauma of my first sewing project and have never made another item of clothing since!!

    ReplyDelete
  132. I think one of the ugliest thing I ever made was one of my first scarfs when I was about 8 years old...but given I was 8, the cuteness factor helped!! Would love to win your awesome prize...thanks for the opportunity!!

  134. The ugliest thing I ever made was a patchwork dog-shaped pillow for my friend. It was made of leftover 2.5" squares, and I had no idea what I was doing so the legs ended up all crooked. She loved it, though.

    ReplyDelete
  135. The ugliest thing I ever made was a stuffie for my son - purple and gold patchwork, ugghh. He was little, so he didn't complain, but he did avoid even looking at it.

    ReplyDelete
  136. What a wonderful giveaway! The ugliest thing I've ever made is a birthday cake. The frosting was supposed to be lavender, but ended up being taupe. Very appetizing - not.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I made myself a dress and the fabric was cute in small pieces but on a large dress it was very muumuu like. I'm still hoping to salvage it into a beach over up or something, but right now I can barely look at it!

    ReplyDelete
  138. I think the ugliest thing I have made is a pair of socks knit from a self striping yarn. The two socks came out completely different sizes and neither fit the pair of feet their were intended for. In my defense, I made them with my eyes closed during the two days after my LASIK surgery. Still... quite ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  139. What a generous giveway! My ugliest project would have to have been an embroidery I did in primary school (on hessian) and then turned into a pillow and gave to my poor unsuspecting 2nd cousin (we still talk but relations are strained - I blame the crap handiwork).

    ReplyDelete
  140. Since I am an elem. art teacher, I loved reading these stories about precious projects. One of the ugliest things I made was a crocheted vest sweater in a harvest gold. Very stylish, but bad choice for a blonde. Then there was the jumper and blouse my mom made, but I picked the fabrics. The jumper was pink burlap! and the long sleeved blouse black and white shiny fabric! sort of a prison gone pink look. But my mom humored me and I loved it. (great prizes)

    ReplyDelete
  145. hello and thank you for such a great start to the may day give away! your stuff looks really great. my first quilt is the ugliest thing i can think of although im sure i have a history of lots of ugly creations. my first quilt i used a used mattress pad cut up for the back! i still have it, mostly because it was my first...it contains a lot of clothes my mom made for us as kids, and it also contains about 3 rows of squares my grandma did before she decided she was too old for quilting anymore!
    thanks! Jenny krousegirl2@aol.com

  146. So I decided to make the super cute Built By Wendy 3835 shirt that everyone was blogging about when I was pregnant and just starting to show. My pattern altering skills are apparently terrible and the shirt was painfully ugly. I considered using it as a rag but in my hormonal state decided I couldn't look at it ever again. Man, it seemed like such a good idea at the time! Nforgue(at)gmail(dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  147. Oh - I am so sorry to say my ugliest creation was a prom dress for my sister... in the days before she or I really understood that patterns could be altered to fit properly.

I think my Dad would say the worst thing I ever made wasn't even anything crafty. When i was little, but old enough to get in the cupboards, I decided to make him a sandwich. The only problem was I used, jam on the bread and anchovies as a filling. He did manage to swallow most of it though! Now that's love!

  156. Awesome giveaway!

The ugliest thing I ever made was a paper mache bird house of a guys head so the mouth was the entrance of the birdhouse. It's very ugly and still kicking around my parent's house somewhere. That or I made some overall shorts out of a cutesy cow fabric that I wore as a senior in high school. I have some of my senior pictures wearing them. What was I thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  157. The ugliest thing I ever made was a jumper for myself. the fabric was great, but what a tent. The best part. there was enough fabric I could salvage to make a dress and two skirts for my three daughters. So yes it does make me smile. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  159. I made an outfit when I was in 7th grade that was this awful aztec print and it was a long wrap skirt and vest. Truly awful.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Ugliest item was hands down an attempt at a flannel nightgown cut on the bias! Never hung right and I bought the flannel on clearance to "practice with" - royal blue with large printed on strawberries and kiwis... what a disaster!

    ReplyDelete
  161. Pick just one ugly item? Holy moly. I'm like one of those knitter/seamstress/crocheter's who doesn't like using patterns much so I've made a lot of ugly stuff. Hmm.... I made a really ugly hat once. Totally ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I had to make a pair of pants for 8th grade and not only did I have to make them, I had to WEAR them@! did you ever see that cosby show? It was like that. In pants, one leg longer than the other I had to walk the runway in front of all the other classes, all their items looking perfect (in my mind)
    it was so bad...
too funny, thanks for the memory!

    ReplyDelete
  163. Wow! What a great giveaway!! The ugliest thing I've ever made. It's funny...I just asked my husband what he thought the ugliest thing I ever made was and he looked at me and said:" What kind of question is that? Do you think I would actually answer that? Then you would just be mad." So that was funny. I think it's probably gifts I used to make for all my brothers and sisters when I was a kid. I would make little decorations out of toilet paper rolls and other scraps and wrap them up for Christmas. They were always so nice and thanked me. Even if they couldn't figure out what it was that I made.

    ReplyDelete
  164. The ugliest thing I made was actually in ceramics in high school. We had to make a set of salt and pepper shakers and I had a thing for dolphins. In my head I saw a dolphin jumping out of the water, but what came out looked a little off and like something they could have used to show male anatomy in a sex ed class. Needless to say my mom wouldn't let me get rid of the penal dolphins! lol

  166. My worst sewing experience was when I was a little girl in 4-H. I sewed a hideous bright yellow dress with sunflowers on it. I remember sitting at the sewing machine for hours and crying that I couldn't figure out the pattern. My cutting skills were far less than desirable so I mutilated the fabric. I ended up with a white ribbon (a thanks for particpating white ribbon). Worst thing was it was on display for everyone to see with my name attached to it, for a week at the county fair.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Generous group of goodies, Sam! I love anything with hexagons, so that Alexander Henry would be great. When I first started sewing I made myself some pretty awful looking garments. Some of them, I wore anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  168. A costume for a class play in 7th grade. 80's purple synthetic satin prom dress, cut up to be a cape, and trim on black gloves (I was a duke, or something). Ugh. The worst part is, I thought it was so neat that I wore it way longer than I had to. Oh, middle school, when wilt you lose your sting! Thanks for the chance to enter.

  169. My worst sewing fiasco was a drop-waist dress that I tried to make in a linen material. The dress was very straight and I wasn't so it bound. I also had purchased some beautiful lace for the collar. I'm still not sure what I did wrong in attaching the lace, but it looked lousy. I finally gave up, so at least I didn't waste a zipper, too.

  171. The ugliest project - that would have to be Malaysian rainbow quilt shown in my blog. Originally it was suppose to be someone in the States and wanted to provide all M'sia made. I hated the thickness of the fabric and the holes made during stippling. Fortunately the color is striking so that sort of cancelled out the ugliness.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Wow what nice prizes. So my ugliest would have to be my 1st attempt at applique. It was all distorted half needle turn, raw edges sticking out all over, squished holes and badly misshaped. A true horror of the "A" word. It took me 20 years to attempt again

    ReplyDelete
  173. Great prizes! And I've made plenty of ugly things -- but I do try and redeem them into something else! Sometimes I'm successful -- sometimes...not so much! Ugliest coming to mind is a tennis shoe shaped pillow I had to make in junior high. I made two of the same sides, had issues sewing it together...the dog didn't even want it! BUT -- of course my mom saved it. :) For much too long!

  190. Hi,
this is my first time on Giveaway Day. Thanks so much. The giveaway looks great. I love all fabric arts and I learned to crochet when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I was prolific...you know how it is when you get excited about a new skill. I made my mom a pair of gloves for Christmas - sans pattern. Needless to say, they didn't quite resemble gloves (some skinny fingers, some fat) and they were completely made of scraps that I scavenged from my grandma. I don't recall my mom ever wearing them...so sad.

  197. The ugliest thing I ever did was try to make a pair of capris. I ended up getting the backside mixed up putting the butt in the front. They looked like maternity pants! It was so awful.
